Hope not

Is Lionsgate about to announce two Luis Buñuel films (Nazarin and Los olvidados) in lousy transfers? And as double features with other B-grade Mexican films? And not even together? More information to come as I uncover what's going on.

UPDATE: By "two," I meant "six." Illusion Travels by Streetcar / The River and Death and The Great Madcap / Daughter of Deceit being the other four.

Strange. Last I heard Olvidados was still in litigation hell, and Nazarin is Janus.

I had heard, years ago, that Koch Lorber owned Olvidados, but nothing ever materialized with that.

Last time I spoke with Koch Lorber (circa a month ago) they said this was still in legal hell.

Where is your source for the Bunuels? It's strange that Lionsgate would dump these being that they should at least know who Bunuel is. Could Lionsgate have bought the Mexican DVD company that already released these as well as four other Bunuels in R1 (with subtitles) but with shitty transfers?

In looking at those, it looks like it would be FOUR Bunuel DVDs. Illusion Travels by Streetcar and The River and Death being the other two, as long as this isn't a mistake.

I wonder if these are the same as the Alter Films releases:

There were six Bunuel films total that Alter films released in Mexico. I've noticed that Lionsgate has been releasing a shitload of Spanish language films and I wonder if both of these news stories are related. I'll email my friend at Koch Lorber and see what the story is.

Thanks for the official updates, Eric. This doesn't look like particularly good news.
