Aujord'hui

I have what could be the hottest collection of famous people to share a birthday with: Akira Kurosawa, Michael Haneke, Amanda Plummer, Damon Albarn, Catherine Keener, Chaka Khan, John Bobbitt, Hope Davis, Richard Grieco, Keri Russell and Ric Ocasek [Correction: AND Joan Crawford. Holy shit.]

La vie sur le terre

So, I turned 24 on Sunday, which coincided with the anniversary of the zombie-esque resurrection of the Christian god. And I partied in full Ramona Lutz style. If you don't get the reference, go rent Freeway. I share a birthday with the incomparable Amanda Plummer. Jealous? I thought so. Anyway, I made myself a musical playlist to celebrate my birthday in style. Here it is. You should always score your own life.

1. Goldfrapp - Eat Yourself
2. Yeasayer - Wait for the Summer
3. MGMT - Electric Feel
4. Cat Power - The Greatest
5. Portishead - The Rip
6. The Verve - Grey Skies
7. The Magnetic Fields - All My Little Words
8. Mojave 3 - Trying to Reach You
9. Til Tuesday - Voices Carry
10. Devo - Mongoloid
11. Sonic Youth - Shadow of a Doubt
12. Eighth Wonder - I'm Not Scared
13. Scratch Massive - Hung Over [fitting, no?]
14. The Human League - Human
15. Montag - Softness, I Forgot Your Name
16. The The - The Beat(en) Generation
17. PJ Harvey - Silence
18. Stacey Q - Two of Hearts

Iced nipples

So, it's taken me about a week to post this, but better late than never. Ulrich Mühe, one of Germany's finest actors, passed away from stomach cancer this past weekend. Mühe starred in The Lives of Others as well as three Michael Haneke films (Funny Games, Benny's Video, and The Castle). He was truly be missed.

On a happier note, the day has come again... Nomi Malone's birthday! I will be spending the finer part of the evening with her and a bottle of the finest champagne I can find at the 24 hour grocery store. Do a couple of lines and ice them nipples up for what's sure to be a good time tonight.

Mi cumpleaños

In addition to today being my golden birthday (23 on the 23rd), don't forget to wish Amanda Plummer, Chaka Khan, Catherine Keener, porno stars Octapussy and Champagne, Felicity's Keri Russell, musician Poe, John Wayne Bobbitt, Damon Albarn, Richard Grieco, Hope Davis, Michael Haneke, Ric Ocasek, and the late Akira Kurosawa a happy birthday as well. I think I'm in good company.

Now that the elections are over...

...it's time to start campaigning for the Oscars, of course! Race is hot this year, after that stellar motion picture Crash beat out that homo Brokeback Mountain. Gay: out. Racism: in. So, I think critics' darling Macy Gray has a great shot at a best supporting actress nod for her scene-stealing performance in what's looking to be the best film of the year, Shadowboxer. Okay, I can only put on my Access Hollywood bullshit for three sentences. As this year's Oscar race seems to be... um... strange, why not start campaigning? Everyone and everything is a dark horse so far. I mean, what's going to be nominated for best picture? Little Miss Sunshine? Cars? The Departed? The Queen? I think those are the only 4 films people have liked this year. Maybe Volver will have a shot, as it's less button-pushing Pedro, and there isn't really much competition. I may as well face the fact that Shortbus or The Descent won't get anything (though why did I even entertain such an idea?). So, I'm going to start my own Oscar campaign for Macy Gray (please don't mind the shitty photoshop job I did, I was in a hurry). If only I knew how to make videos from DVDs, and I'd post the bar scene from Shadowboxer on YouTube in a second. I mean, I need to spread the word, don't I? If anyone can assist me in such an endeavor, it will be greatly appreciated and may result in the filling of your pink mouth with a whole lot of ice cream. How can you resist now? Well, in the meantime, why don't you just go out and celebrate French heartthrob Alain Delon's birthday?

2007 is looking good already!

I knew I couldn't have a shitty day if I woke up to find that Warner Brothers has finally announced the much-delayed DVD release of Nicolas Roeg and Donald Cammell's Performance, starring Mick Jagger, James Fox, and Anita Pallenberg. This will be the first release of the film anywhere and will also be the uncut version of the film, thank God. The disc includes a documentary and will be out on Feburary 13th, 2007. So, if you wanna be my valentine, you know what to get me.

I must also wish a happy birthday to the late, great Divine, who would be 61 today. Divine is assuredly one of the finest comic actors that ever graced the screen. Too bad Divine ain't around any more, or I'd get her those coveted Cha-Cha Heels. Look and see:

Ehhhh... joyeux anniversaire?

Iconic, beautiful, tragic. Yes, today is Brigitte Bardot's birthday, and I would like to wish her a happy birthday if she weren't such an asshole. Sure, she only made one film that's even worth mentioning (that being Godard's Contempt [Le Mépris], though she does have a small cameo in Godard's lesser Masculin féminin), she certainly had her place in the minds of men all over the world. And, I, for one, will always adore "Bonnie and Clyde" with Serge Gainsbourg. Currently (if you didn't know), she is married to an extreme-right French politician, supports animal rights, hates Muslims, thinks homosexuals are carnival freak-shows, and runs her mouth whenever possible, after retiring from film after Don Juan, or If Don Juan Were a Woman. So, thanks, Brigitte, but no thanks. Sometimes icons really should have faded away.

Birthday Girl!

I just wanted to wish a blessed birthday to one of my favorite screen goddesses, Nomi Malone... I mean, Elizabeth Berkley. She turns 34 today, and here's hoping that she gets back on the screen soon. At least her birthday list is easy: someone buy that bitch a dress from Ver-sayce... or just a bag of chips.

And, though Showgirls is certainly her masterpiece, we can't forget that she provided the best moment in all of the seasons of Saved by the Bell. Found here:
